Before the bell, we will take two minutes to let the pace of the day come down a little.

Rest one hand on the desk and tap one finger in a slow beat, without a sound, at whatever pace your day has had.

Now let each beat come a little later than the one before, until the beat is slower than feels normal.

Stop when you are ready, let your hand rest and notice the pace you will carry out of the door.

Adapting it

Ages 13 to 15
Move your own finger slowly where the room can see it, and let your beat slow down first so that everyone can follow without words.
Ages 16 to 18
Mention that two slower minutes do not have to be earned by finishing everything first.
