Sustainability, Inclusion and Accessibility Manifesto

Recipes for Wellbeing is committed to contributing to the wholebeing of both people and planet. Even if we are a small not-for-profit association, we believe there is a lot we can do to nourish other people and planet Earth. So here is our Sustainability, Inclusion and Accessibility Manifesto, which we hope will inspire many other organisations to join our ongoing effort to live sustainably and inclusively in respect of all beings.

Sustainability, inclusion and accessibility online

  • We have signed the Sustainable Web Manifesto, under which we commit to adhere to five principles:
    • Clean: The services we provide and services we use will be powered by renewable energy.
    • Efficient: The products and services we provide will use the least amount of energy and material resources possible.
    • Open: The products and services we provide will be accessible, allow for the open exchange of information, and allow users to control their data.
    • Honest: The products and services we provide will not mislead or exploit users in their design or content.
    • Regenerative: The products and services we provide will support an economy that nourishes people and planet.
  • Each year, we will calculate our website’s carbon emissions through Websitecarbon.com and we will offset them through MyClimate.
  • Our website features wellbeing recipes that invite participants to engage with Nature, such as “5 elements meditation”“Dialogues with Nature”, “Mountain meditation”“Truth mandala”, and “Virtual Nature walk”.
  • Our website features accessibility tools that improve the user experience, such as the possibility to increase or decrease the size of the text; change the colours to grayscale, high contrast, negative contrast, or light background; underline all hyperlinks and adapt the text to a readable font. These features can be easily activated and/or deactivated by the users themselves at all times.
  • We have started to translate our website and recipes into other languages than English, starting with Italian, German, Spanish, and French.
  • We are now exploring further actions to make our web- and mobile sites more energy efficient. This includes stripping out unnecessary code, further optimising the media content uploaded, and improving user experience.

Sustainability, inclusion and accessibility at our events

  • Whenever possible, we take trains instead of planes and we invite participants at our events to do the same.
  • When flying cannot be avoided, we offset our carbon emissions through MyClimate, and we invite participants at our events to do the same.
  • During our events, we aim to reduce our ecological footprint of food. This includes serving vegetarian and vegan food only, preferably organic, and always local and seasonal. We also use tap water instead of bottled water where it is safe.
  • During our events, we minimise the use of non-reusable and non-recyclable material like single-use plastic and we optimise the material we need for our activities.
  • Our wholebeing labs and retreats take place in venues that are immersed in Nature where the hosts are aligned to our values and connected to the land. This includes selecting venues that minimise soil, flora, and fauna impacts.
  • We do our best to choose sites and venues that are accessible by public transport, and with facilities that ensure barrier-free access for everyone.
  • We implement responsible noise management practices during our retreats to respect our natural surroundings, and neoughours.
  • We have an active sustainable purchasing policy: when sourcing products or services for our events, we are committed to sourcing from individuals and enterprises that support socially diverse communities, indigenous communities, and people with disabilities. To the best of our abilities, we also ensure to source products and services that are both sustainable and ethical.
  • Where possible, we integrate the event with local community stakeholders. We actively seek to get the support and involvement of local authorities, organisations, and community groups.
  • The activities we facilitate at our events cater for different learning styles through a balanced mix of different methodologies and approaches.
