VIA Character Strengths

📝 Description

Knowing and using your strengths has more benefits than you might think!

The following activity enables you to understand your strengths and identify ways to optimise them. Many scientific studies show that knowing and using your strengths has several positive benefits. For instance, it can help you increase your levels of happiness and wellbeing, find meaning and purpose in life, improve your relationships with loved ones, keep your health under control by managing stress, etc. Your strengths also play a crucial role at work, allowing you to accomplish your goals, be more productive, and find more enjoyment in your job.

👣 Steps

Step 1 – Take the survey (15’)

Go to VIA Character Strengths and take the free test to discover your character strengths.

Step 2 – Go deeper into your strengths (30’)

Check your top 3 character strengths and use the following prompts to reflect about them. You can do this individually or you can find a partner who has also taken the test.

  • How surprised (or not) are you about your top 3 character strengths?
  • How are you using your strengths in your personal life and at work? (Please provide current or past examples.)
  • What would happen if you were not able to use your top 1 strength? How would you feel? What impact would it have on you and those around you?
  • Are you under-using or over-using your top 3 character strengths? In what ways?
  • How can you use your character strengths better?
  • What other character strengths might you wish to develop further?
